project: 3 fortress of Komárom
address: 1. Dunapart, 2900 Komárom, Hungary
year designed: 2004-
design: Tibor Dékány, Sándor Finta, Ádám Hatvani, Orsolya Vadász
The system of historic forts is situated in and around the “twin” towns of Komárom, Hungary, and Komárno, Slovakia on opposite banks of the Danube River. These forts, and their predecessors have been built and rebuilt over the centuries, but their current forms show the most skilled building techniques and styles from the second half of the 19th century (1852-1890).
The Hungarian side of the city there are three forts: Fort Monostor, Fort Igmándi, Fort Csillag
We have been working for years on plans and design for the Ensemble of the Komárom Fortresses. Our approach is characterised by high creativeness and complex proposals, involving the ‘partner arts’ of architecture.
We designed several ‘elements’ of the Revival Plans of Fort Monostor and of Fort Igmándi, such as:
International Fluvial Port – also as theatrical stage, between fort Monostor and the Danube
Main Gate Visual Sign – guest-greeting concrete panels at main parking
3Fortresses – to integrate the city and its cultural heritage in the network of tourist routs, study of the interconnection of fortress Monostor, fortress Igmándi and Star fortress
camping – on the site of the former range
Fort Igmándi – museum of plaster cast
Fort Monostor – fluvial port on Danube
