Seremetevskaya station
The public transport as part of the infrastructure system moves the city, it is activating the city. The public transport network of a city is like the bloodstream of a living organism.
The architectural concept of the Seremetievskaya metro station is to represent this dynamic action, the pulsing of the metropolisIt is gently reflecting on the Russian avantgard tradition at the same time, without concrete architectural forms of the 1920’s avantgard, but with a bit of suprematism. The colored glass mosaic tile strips are leading trough the station representing the spirit ofspeed and dynamism of the city.
The colors of the stripes are coming from the beautiful colours of Saint Basil’s cathedral. The design concept of the station was to extrude these colors between the two endpoints of the station, as a reference of Russian tradition.
The idea is minimalistic. It is concentrating on the main surfaces of the tunnels. We built a prefabricated “aqua panel” structure inside the water insulating layer covered with mesh-mounted mosaic tiles. (with revision doors where it is necessary). The mosaic material is a classic covering for metro. It is shiny. It is perfect for curved surfaces and is unique in the metro network of Moscow.
The lighting concept is following the main idea. Different length of built in dimmable LED lights are providing well-lit surfaces in an indirect way, so there won’t be any harsh shadows. The floor which is made of light gray granite, includes colored light stripes parallel to the rails to help orienting line directions or in case of emergency. The furniture and the general information system can be easy integrated in the concept. Over the platform edge we implemented a transparent glass smoke barrier (if it is necessary). On the bottom side of the barrier, there is a display stripe projecting information related to the traffic, and metro line.
